I am So Excited!

So,

I am taking a break from giving you some writing advice. Don't worry, we will definitely get back to that soon.

Instead, I want to share with you some very exciting news! My young adult novel, "Like a Spark," is due for release on all major book seller's websites and through Ingram Spark, May 12, 2021

First off, I want to tell you a little bit about my book. It is the very first 'novel' that I have ever started and finished. A real achievement for a writer!

I'm not just going to share with you the 'official' synopsis! No, I'm going to give you an exclusive and detailed sneak-peak into what really happens (hopefully without sharing any spoilers).

Like a Spark is about a young girl horse named Petra who begins her life enjoying the comforts associated with being a part of a family that has a high status in the herd of wild horses, which she belongs to. But everything changes in one split second! One minute she has friends, and she and her family are loved by all. The next minute she is despised, misunderstood and sent to the back of the herd, with all the other misfits.

Years pass by and Petra slips deeper into her feelings of shame, for being responsible for her family's fall, and sadness, in response to all the cruelty that she must bear from even the lowliest horses around her. After enduring yet another uncivil comment from a middling horse, Petra meets a friend who understands her and helps her see that the very thing that other horses are making fun of her for, is actually a gift and not a curse. Petra must make the decision to either use her gift for the good of her herd or continue to cower in fear of what the others think.

Like a Spark is very dear to me, because it mirrors some of the hardships that I faced in primary and middle school. You see, I was severely bullied from the age of 10 to 16. My experience of school was traumatic, surrounded by villainous children who said terrible and earth-shattering things to me and even physically abused me.

I wrote this book to empower young people who have also been bullied. I want them to understand that they do not need to cower in fear and trembling because of the cruelty of others. I want them to see that everyone has different and unique qualities that we ultimately (usually) understand to be our strengths and gifts. In my story, Petra begins to understand that the very thing that she is being bullied for, will actually help other people. She also sees that she has all the love and support that she needs in her faithful new friend and her affectionate parents.
